Bangkok, SANA – Athlete Majd-Eddin Ghazal, member of the Syrian national athletics team, won on Thursday a gold medal in high jump competition within the Fourth Asian Beach Games held in the Thai island of Phuket, which will run through Monday.
Ghazal was ranked first after jumping 194 cm, while an athlete from Kazakhstan came second jumping 191 cm, ahead of a Qatari athlete who came third with a 188 cm high jump.
Later on the day, Ismael Bteih beat a Tajikistani athlete in muay thai (81 kg), securing the bronze medal before playing the semi-final game tomorrow.
Syrian athletes have won seven medals so far in the Games; a gold to Ghazal, a silver to Amin Salama (high jump) and five bronzes to Maher al-Khayat (wrestling), Saleh Mohammad (swimming), Nadia al-Assaf (Sambo) and Methqal al-Jazmati (Kurash).
