Ala calls on Human Rights Council not to be subject to Western pressures on unilateral measures

Geneva, SANA – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala on Thursday called on Human Rights Council not to be subject to Western pressures that support the unilateral coercive measures on countries.

Ala, during a session on the negative impacts of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of the human rights, including the right to development, added that Syria has been exposed to a wide range of unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union and their allies which affected vital economic, service and living sectors and had negative impacts on the living conditions of the Syrian people.

He went on to say that Special Rapporteur  Idriss Jazairy described in his report to the council in September ,2018, the unilateral coercive measures imposed on  Syria as a violation of the UN Charter ,International humanitarian law, basic rights of the Syrian citizens including the right of food and medicine.

Ala stressed that the unilateral coercive measures have recently reached a level of embargo and economic war because it has deprived the Syrian people from the basic needs like medicine , including fuel for heating, life-saving medicines and milk for children.
