A number of drug dealers arrested in Damascus and its countryside

Damascus, SANA – Drug Combating Administration arrested a number of drug dealers and pushers in Damascus and its countryside, seizing 18 Kg of hashish and over 900 grams of heroin, in addition to an amount of weapons and ammunition, that were in their possession, according to the Interior Ministry.

A source at the narcotics department told SANA that following investigations, two gangs were arrested in Damascus with around 8 kg of hashish and some heroin in their possession, while two other gangs were arrested in Damascus Countryside with around 15 kg of hashish, around 900 grams of heroin, and assorted weapons and ammo.

This year, the narcotics department seized around 325 kg of hashish, around 25 kg of heroin, around 900 grams of cocaine, over 4,000 kg of materials used for manufacturing drugs, and large amounts of narcotic pills including over 2.7 million pills of fenethylline, commonly known as Captagon.

Over 3,380 lawsuits were filed against individuals involved in illicit drug trade and 4,511 suspects were arrested and tried.
