Damascus, SANA- Ministry of Local Administration and Environment , in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) launched on Wednesday the Local Administration Workshop at Damascus-based Dama Rose Hotel.
A number of governors and heads of the local councils are participating in the workshop.
The two-day workshop discusses the legal framework of local administration, ways of identifying the opportunities and priorities of the projects in need of support to develop society.
Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hussein Makhlouf said that local administration law no. 107 for 2011 aims at reaching administrative units which are able to carry out urban projects through partnership in a way that achieves balanced development in different areas.
For his part, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad pointed out that the workshop comes within the framework of state interest in its approach to the concept of partnership on the central and local levels.
He added that the state has adopted a number of procedures in order to ensure the safety of citizens and combating terrorism in areas as well as adopting necessary measures to maintain the citizens’ real estate and civil rights.
In turn, UNDP Regional Adviser, Moises Venancio noted that the workshop is an opportunity to discuss all types of support provided to Syria and the discussions will be part of the works in the programs of UNDP.
