Moscow, SANA- Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed the necessity of exerting more efforts to enhance the political solution to the crisis in Syria.
“Much is yet to be done to promote peace process in Syria, and to achieve political and diplomatic settlement of other crises,” TASS Agency quoted President Putin as saying in a greeting message to the Russian foreign ministry on Diplomatic Worker’s Day that was read out by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday.
“And, naturally, it is necessary to augment efforts to develop Eurasian integration processes and to expand the European Economic Union’s external ties with an eye of forming a bigger Eurasian partnership,” Putin added.
“Issues of maintaining strategic stability require increased attention, bearing in mind that a challenge has been thrown down to the arms control an non-proliferation regimes,” President Putin noted.
“Russia’s diplomacy today makes a serious contribution to the course of peace, resolution of current regional and global problems, development of cooperation with foreign partners,” the president said.
President Putin added “In the current difficult situation, when international security and order are living through serious trials, diplomats have very important tasks. Thus, it is necessary to defend basic principles of international law and the United Nations’ pivotal role, to take efforts to consolidate the global community in the face of terrorist threat.”
Earlier on the day, President Putin discussed with permanent members of the Russian Security Council the situation in Syria in light of the upcoming summit of Astana process guarantor states in Sochi.
