Damascus, SANA – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammoudeh Sabbagh highlighted the deep-rooted historic relations binding the Syrian and Cuban people, calling for enhancing them in all domains, particularly the parliamentary ones, in a way that meets the interests of the two countries.
Sabbagh’s remarks came during a meeting on Tuesday with First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba Marcelino Medina and the accompanying delegation.
Sabbagh indicated that Syria and Cuba stand in the same trench in the face of the imperialist hegemony and the US schemes which target free peoples, hailing the stance of the Cuban leadership and people in support of Syria in the face of the terrorist war launched against it.
He clarified that the Western media continues to distort facts about what is taking place in Syria, affirming that priority is given to combating terrorism and enhancing the local reconciliations, in addition to the return of the displaced to their cities and villages and the reconstruction process.
For his part, Medina said that the visit to Syria came to reiterate Cuba’s principled stance and its support to reach a political solution for the crisis through dialogue among the Syrians along with respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity without any foreign interference.
He added that the Syrian people and leadership are the only ones who can work for finding solutions to their problems without any foreign interference.
He affirmed that the relations between Syria and Cuba are historic and they have been built on solid bases, highly appreciating the Syrian leadership and people for their solidarity with Cuba since the beginning of the Cuban revolution.
