Damascus, SANA – Foreign and Expatriates Ministry stressed that the presence of any foreign military forces on the Syrian Arab Republic territories without its explicit approval is an aggression and occupation, calling on Security Council to put an end to the attack of the Turkish regime on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The Turkish regime is continuing its violations of the principles of the international law and its aggression on the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Ministry said in a letter sent to the UN Secretary-General and President of the UN Security Council in response to letter of the Turkish regime’s representative to the United Nations on January 20.
The Ministry said that the Turkish regime is going ahead in marketing its lies, which no longer convince anyone, in an attempt to justify its military aggression against the Syrian Arab Republic under the pretext of “self-defense” stipulated in article 51 of the U.N. Charter, similar to what the US-led coalition has done in Syria to justify its horrific crimes against the innocent civilians in Syria.
It went to say that the Syrian Arab Republic strongly rejects all attempts by the Turkish regime to rely on UNSC resolutions no. 1373, 1624, 2170 and 2178 as no resolutions give member states the right to harm the sovereignty of other states or launch military operations on their territories under the pretext of counter-terrorism.
The Ministry affirmed that it is “ironic” that the Turkish regime tries to justify its military aggressive atrocities based on resolutions 2170 and 2178, rather than committing to the implementation of the same resolutions, which systematically violates their provisions, namely articles 8, 10, 11, 14 and 16 of the resolution 2170 and articles 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the Resolution 2178, through providing support to the terrorists and allowing tens of thousands of foreign terrorist fighters to cross the Turkish territory into Syria, as the Turkish regime’s president admitted before.
Foreign Ministry slammed the Turkish military operation in the north of Syria as a flagrant assault on the sovereignty of Syria and its territorial integrity, and that it violates the provisions of the Charter, namely Article 4 of item 2 which states that “All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.”
“The Syrian Arab Republic urges the UNSC not to allow to any state to use force in a way that contradicts with the international law or to depend on the charter to justify its aggressive atrocities as it also urges the Council not to make the Charter a method by the hands of such states to explain it in accordance to their narrow interests that contradict with the context and core of the Charter, noting that the Representatives of the United States, Britain and France, who claimed to cry over Syrian civilians before, did not speak a word about Turkish atrocities in Afrin,” the letter concluded.
