Damascus University, ICRC discuss cooperation to spread the concepts of international humanitarian law

Damascus, SANA- Rector of Damascus University Mohamed Maher Kabikiby discussed on Sunday with head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Syria Marianne Gasser prospects of cooperation, especially in organizing workshops, lectures, and programs related to spreading the concepts of international humanitarian law.

The two sides discussed the activities planned for 2018, which include workshops for the teachers of international humanitarian law at law schools and the faculties of political sciences and media, along with other departments that are concerned with humanitarian affairs and laws.

Kabikiby said that many activities about international humanitarian law are to be held in 2018 according to the memo of understanding signed between Damascus University and the ICRC in 2017, and many other public universities are to be included in these activities, in addition to launching postgraduate studies programs in this domain.

In turn, Gasser said that representatives from many public establishment participated in a number of training and introductory workshops on international law in coordination with the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, hoping for the cooperation to continue, especially in academic circles.
