Syria strongly condemns terrorist attack in Sinai, Egypt

Damascus, SANA- Syria condemned in the strongest terms the horrific massacre perpetrated by terrorist groups against worshippers in a mosque in Sinai, Egypt, stressing the importance of concerted efforts to confront terrorism which targets the present and future of the Arab nation.

An official source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry told SANA that “the Syrian Arab Republic condemns in the strongest terms the cowardly and horrific massacres carried out by terrorist groups against the worshipers at al-Rawda mosque in El-Arish area in the Egyptian province of Sinai, which resulted in up to 200 martyrs and injuring hundreds of innocent Egyptian citizens.”

The source said Syria stresses that the terrorist crimes perpetrated by armed groups in the Syrian Arab Republic, Egypt, and in other parts of the Arab world have similar perpetrators and objectives, and that the main task of all Arab countries should be combating the real terrorism supported by forces, parties, and states known to be hostile towards the Arab nation.

The source went on to say that the pressures practiced recently by known countries in adopting a resolution by the so called “Arab League” in which they falsely accused powers, parties, and states that form a vanguard in combating terrorism was a wrong and misleading decision and constitutes a cover to protect terrorists and murderers such as Daesh (ISIS), Jabhat al-Nusra, and the gangs of Muslim Brotherhood, which allows these organizations to carry out more terrorist acts against innocent citizens.

The source concluded by saying that Syria expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of Egypt, and it reiterates its unswerving commitment to the fight against terrorism that targets the present and future of the Arab nation, calling for uniting efforts to fight terrorism in order to preserve the security, progress, and stability of the nation.
