Russia: Antalya meeting called for continuing efforts through Astana talks to pursue Syrian dialogue in Geneva

Moscow, SANA – The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Russian-Iranian-Turkish meeting in the Turkish city of Antalya discussed all issues related to the political settlement for the Syrian crisis, the development of the political situation and military operations in the context of coordinating the joint fight against international terrorism, and the de-escalation zones which were formed during Astana talks.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry announced that the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Mevlut Cavusoglu of Turkey called for continuing the joint efforts through the Astana talks to create favorable circumstances to activate the Syrian talks under the international auspices in Geneva.

The ministry added that the three ministers asserted that the level of violence in Syria has decreased, allowing for moving from military confrontation to political settlement.

The ministry also pointed out that the ministers discussed preparations for the Syrian national dialogue congress in the Russian city of Sochi.

Lavrov had also announced that the closed-doors meeting in Antalya discussed a series of topics related to the crisis in Syria and preparations for the summit of the three countries in the city of Sochi on November 22nd.
