Moscow, SANA- Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu discussed with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura prospects of settling crisis in Syria through political means.
After meeting Shoigu in Moscow on Wednesday, de Mistura said in a statement that the meeting was useful and positive atmosphere prevailed as there was a significant chance at the suitable time to discuss prospects of moving from stage of de-escalation zones in Syria to the political settlement.
He underlined importance of time factor and of continuing talks in framework of Astana before holding the regular meeting at the Kazakh capital.
For his part, Shoigu affirmed importance of work with UN representatives to continue implementation of its resolutions which stipulate for subsequent steps to settle situation in Syria whether according to Astana meetings or in framework of Geneva Conference.
“Doubtlessly, it is important for us to work with a close cooperation and full coordination with all bodies concerned, and in first place the UN, and to follow up issues related to settling the situation whether according to Astana scenario or through the work in Geneva,” Shoigu said.
