Al-Moallem meets Lebanese counterpart on sidelines of UN General Assembly

New York, SANA – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem met on Thursday his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly held on September 19-25.

Both ministers discussed the bilateral relations betwene the two brotherly countries, including in political and economic coordination and cooperation.

“The Syrian-Lebanese relations are firm no matter how much some try to put obstacles in their way,” al-Moallem said during the meeting.

He touched upon the developments in the field of combatign terrorism and with regard to the Astana process and the de-escalation zones, stressing that Syria will go ahead in fighting terrorism.

For his part, Bassil highlighted the importance of the relations and coordination between Syria and Lebanon in the varioys fields.

He pointed out that the positive developments witnessed in the Syrian arena and the victories of the Syrian Arab Army over terrorism will force those who have a negative attitude towards Syria to reconsider their position and join the reconstruction process in the country.
