Putin: Solution of crisis in Syria can be found through the UN through Astana and Geneva talks

Damascus, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed on Tuesday that the solution of the crisis in Syria can be found through the United Nations based on the Geneva and Astana talks.

During a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Putin said he had discussed the situation in Syria with Merkel and they agreed that it was necessary to galvanize the peace negotiations through the Astana and Geneva formats.

“We are confident that a solution to the Syrian problem can be found only through United Nations brokered peace talks,” Putin said, calling for a thorough and unbiased investigation into the incident with the use of chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun area, condemning the use of chemical weapons and stressing the need for punishing those responsible for using them.

For her part, Merkel announced her country’s readiness to do everything to support the cessation of hostilities in Syria.
