Russian Defense Ministry: 23 breaches of truce by armed groups in Syria

Moscow, SANA – The Russian Defense Ministry said that 23 breaches by armed groups of the truce regime that came into effect on Monday in Syria have been observed, with armed groups attacking residential neighborhoods and Syrian Arab Army positions.

Russian General Staff official Viktor Poznikhir said on Tuesday that the Russian Coordination Center in Hmeimeem observed 23 breaches by armed groups up to Tuesday morning, and that these breaches consisted of shelling that targeted residential neighborhoods and Syrian Arab Army positions.

Poznikhir noted that the Syrian Arab Army has ceased all combat operations completely except in the areas where ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra are present, and that the truce regime that came into effect on Monday is still holding, stressing the need to refrain from falling for the provocations committed by armed groups.

Meanwhile, head of the Russian Coordination Center, Lt. Gen. Vladimir Savchenk, said that at least 10 breaches by armed groups that targeted residential neighborhood and Syrian Army positions have been observed in the surroundings of Aleppo city alone, noting that the Syrian Army showed restrain and hasn’t responded to these breaches, adding that most breaches came from areas where both armed groups and terrorists from Jabhat al-Nusra are present.

In turn, Col. Sergey Kopytsin from the Center said that 5 breaches by armed groups have been observed in Aleppo last night and that these breaches claimed the lives of 8 people and injured 11.
