Second Sand Sculpture Forum kicks off in Lattakia

Lattakia, SANA – Activities of the second professional sand sculpture forum kicked off Monday at Alyukhut Marina in Lattakia .

The forum includes holding plastic art exhibitions and organizing workshops for children to teach them forming clay, recycling and free draw. It will wrap up with a concert by students of Mahmoud al-Ajjan Institute.

The forum is organized by the National Association for Tourism Development in Syria, in cooperation with Tourism Ministry and the Councils of Lattakia City and Governorate.

Chairperson of the National Association for Tourism Development in Lattakia, Sahar Hmeisheh, said that the forum will showcase the artworks of a group of Syrian sculptors and present a new artistic experience to the Syrian audience.

She underlined the unremitting efforts exerted by volunteers, organizers and sponsors to enhance the cultural and artistic movement in Syria and strengthen communication between well-known sculptors and the ambitious young generations in order to exchange expertise and contribute to enriching the artistic scene.

For his part, Head of the Promotion Department at Lattakia Tourism Directorate, Firas Wardeh, noted that organizing this forum for the second year in a row comes within the framework of the Tourism Ministry’s promotional plan and adds value to the tourist scene in Syria as a whole.

The forum lasts till August 15th with the participation of ten Syrian sculptors.

The forum shows that even under the current circumstances, Syrians continue to find new outlets for their creativity.

Sand sculpture events are held across the world on annual basis and this forum in Syria will be the first step towards a new artistic tradition that would last for a long time.
