Tehran, SANA – Chairman for the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security of the Iranian Shura Council Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that the erroneous policies of the United States and its allies caused the crisis in Syria and the instability in the region.
During a meeting with chief of the Finnish Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Antti Kaikkonen on Sunday, Boroujerdi said the United States’ strategic mistake in the region is a result of incorrect analysis based on incorrect information supplied by its allies, with the end result being the sending, training, and arming of tens of thousands of terrorists in the region.
He also reiterated that the political solution for the crisis in Syria should be based on intra-Syrian dialogue, an opinion echoed by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during his meeting with Kaikkonen, with Zarif saying that the political solution in Syria must be based on supporting the sovereignty and will of the Syrian people, and that Iran supports intra-Syrian dialogue.
Earlier today, Zarif said that the terrorism affecting Syria, Iraq, the region, and the whole world nowadays is caused by the US occupation of Iraq in 2003.
