Damascus, SANA – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham met on Tuesday the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus Karpenko Igor Vasilievic.
Al-Laham stressed during the meeting that Syria is open to all initiatives seeking a political solution to the crisis that wins the approval of all the Syrians and not one imposed by some Western powers and governments.
He affirmed that the priority right now is fighting terrorism and launching the reconstruction process.
He noted that the Syrian army’s frequent victories against the terrorists are driving the countries supporting them crazy and have caused them to call for a ceasefire in an attempt to help the defeated terrorists.
Al-Laham appreciated in this context Belarus’ stance in support of Syria in its war against terrorism and in rejecting foreign interference in its affairs and backing a Syrian-Syrian dialogue without preconditions.
He also referred to the standing economic cooperation between Belarus and Syria that has contributed to alleviating the Syrian people’s suffering.
Vasilievic, for his part, said the delegation’s visit to Syria is meant to express solidarity with the Syrian people and their leadership against the Western-backed terrorism inflicted upon the country.
He used the opportunity to stress the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Syria and activating the joint parliamentary friendship association to coordinate its work at the various international forums.
In the same context, Vasilievich met Grand Mufti of the Republic Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, who asserted that Syrians are committed to national unity, humane values, dialogue, and accepting the other, lauding the positions of Belarus and its support for the Syrian people.
In turn, Vasilievich said the delegation’s visit to Syria is an expression of solidarity with the Syrian people and leadership, praising the atmosphere of tolerance he experienced in Syria.
