Tartous, SANA – The activities of the First Sculpture Forum dubbed “Tartous… Mother of Martyrs” kicked off on Thursday with the participation of 25 sculptors from many Syrian provinces.
The theme of the forum, according to Tartous Governor Safwan Abu Saadi, is to dignify martyrdom and perform “our duty towards the coming generations in terms of the need to document what Syria is going through at this stage to be a source of inspiration and pride.”
Those who delivered speeches at the opening considered that the forum represents defiance to the attempts of the terrorists and their backers to destroy the human and cultural heritage in the region in general and in Syria in particular in service of the Zionists’ interests.
One of the participant sculptors pointed out that Tartous Forum has double importance as it is also put forward as being professional with it involving prominent figures of long experience in the field of sculpting, referring also to high-quality marble used as it is one of the finest kinds globally.
Another sculptor considered that the fact that such a number of sculptors would participate in a forum under the current circumstances in the country is evidence of the forum’s intellectual dimension and artistic value.
An exhibition including 20 paintings by 12 artists was held on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the forum.
