Homs governor discusses with UNHCR delegation means to enhance cooperation in relief work

Homs, SANA-Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi affirmed the governorate’s readiness to cooperate with international organizations and to facilitate relief work.

During his meeting with Deputy Head of the UNHCR mission in Syria Abdul Karim Ghoul and his accompanying delegation, al-Barazi said that Syria was the third country in the world in terms of receiving refugees from neighboring countries before the crisis, but when Syrians were forced to leave their country due to the current circumstances, tents were set up for them in border areas.

Both sides discussed means to enhance humanitarian work and increase aid to cover all areas.

In a press statement following the meeting, the governor pointed out that meetings with international organizations’ delegations aim to implement cooperation projects and execute relief work in safe and unsafe areas, noting that cooperation with international delegations is “continuous and productive” and aims to ease the citizens’ suffering.

For his part, Ghoul said that the visit comes in the framework of field visits to the areas where the UNHCR mission is organizing activities to support displaced people in cooperation with local authorities, adding that the mission is carrying out many activities in Homs province in coordination with the governorate and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).
