Homs Governorate forms a committee to provide aid to families displaced from Palmyra

Palmyra, Homs

Homs, SANA – Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi said the Governorate has formed a committee to provide assistance to the families who have been displaced from Palmyra after the assault of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Al-Barazi told SANA in a statement on Monday that the committee will work on securing temporary accommodation places for the displaced families and providing all forms of support and assistance to them, in addition to providing the needs of the students from the city who reside in central Homs.

ISIS started an assault on Palmyra city days ago, where it slaughtered and mutilated at least 400 civilians, mostly children, women and elderly people.

The ruins in the ancient city of Palmyra, which are designated by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, are jeopardized by ISIS as it is
notorious for demolishing historical artifacts, examples of which were evident in areas in Iraq where the terrorist organization took over.
