Damascus, SANA – The centrality of the Palestinian Cause was the focal point stressed during the meeting of the Board of Trustees of al-Quds International Foundation that took place in Damascus on Saturday.
The meeting was held on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Nakba (Arabic for catastrophe), an annual event marked on May 15 to commemorate the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians that preceded and followed the establishment of the Zionist Israeli occupation entity in the Palestinian territory in 1948.
The now millions of Palestinian refugees in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon as well as in the Palestine’s West Bank and Gaza Strip have been since that date struggling to maintain their right to return home.
A stress that Syria “will ever remain committed to the Palestinian Cause” was voiced by Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban, who is the Board’s Chairperson.
She also affirmed that the Arab-Israeli conflict underlies all the events taking place in the region, referring to the Zionist and Western plots targeting the Arab and Islamic countries and the sweeping wave of terrorism striking them.
Al-Quds Foundation commemorates Nakba Day “to say to all of the Arabs that by standing with Syria, Iraq and Yemen, they will be supporting themselves, because it is Arabism that is being targeted by the danger sweeping the region,” said Shaaban.
She called for concerted Arab efforts to launch a project to repeal the 1916 Sykes–Picot Agreement, a secret agreement between the governments of the United Kingdom and France to divide the Arab countries into areas of control.
She hoped that a new project may be founded to establish “a new Arab reality” that is able to face the Zionist project and end the conflict in favor of the Arab people.
The attendees in the meeting indicated integrated roles of the terrorist organizations fighting in the Arab countries and the Zionist plot for the region.
In this context, Shaaban said the terrorist organizations in Syria and the region in general are repeating what the Israeli entity has done to the Palestinian people in cahoots with the international Zionism.
