Awtar Music Academy, the first to teach music online

Damascus, SANA – An online academy to teach music through internet was launched Friday after two–year experiment period.

Awtar (Chords) Academy makes it possible for students to directly learn types of music online via its website.

Founder of the Academy, musician Joan Qaracholli said that most of the Syrian cities are in need for institutes to learn music particularly in the rural areas, “We believe in the importance of spreading the education of music as to be accessible to all.”

“We seek to bring talents to light” Qracholli said during a press conference held at Umayyad Hotel, adding “I believe that the people don’t have to bear the burden of movement to join one of the Ministry of Culture’s institutes in order to learn music and brush up their talents,” he added.

“The academic year for each student starts once they join the Academy where they occupy a class directly… The Academy gives each student a certificate that shows the years of study provided that they are not less than three consecutive years,” he clarified.

The Academy teaches Solfège with music theories, Harmony and the theories of the Arab music in addition to teaching to play the oud, the guitar, the piano, the zither and the flute as well as singing.
