Yerevan, SANA-Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan described on Wednesday relations which connect the Syrian and Armenian peoples as “deep and strong”, affirming that Syria will defeat terrorism and restore its security and stability.
“Armenia supports Syria against terrorism with all its forms, and it also supports the Syrian people and State during this ordeal to which it is exposed,” President Sargsyan said at a meeting with Speaker of the people’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham who chairs a parliamentary delegation to a political forum on combating the crime of genocide on the centennial anniversary of the Armenian genocide.
Al-Laham, for his part, said Syria, as leadership and people, appreciates stances of friendly Armenia in light of terrorism and political and economic pressures to which it is exposed.
He affirmed the Syrian people’s solidarity with Armenia on the centennial anniversary of genocide, saying that the world is called today to recognize the nations’ rights and respect them.
In the same context, al-Laham discussed with Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Galust Sahakyan the parliamentary ties between Syria and Armenia and means to develop them.
Sahakyan, for his part, appreciated the participation of the Syrian people’s Assembly in that forum, saying “The Armenian people will not forget the Syrian people who hosted and backed the Armenians at time of genocide which was perpetrated by Turkey before 100 years.”
In another meeting, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan echoed the comments of Sahakyan, affirming that Syria and Armenia will continue cooperation and coordination on all levels, particularly in combating terrorism.
