Beirut, SANA- Former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, announced Sunday the end of the annual tradition of commemorating Kamal Jumblatt’s assassination, following the arrest by Syrian authorities of the individual responsible for the crime. He emphasized the necessity of rebuilding Lebanese-Syrian relations and demarcating the borders between the two countries.
Speaking on the 48th anniversary of Kamal Jumblatt’s assassination, according to the Lebanese National News Agency, Jumblatt stated: “As the sun of freedom rises over Syria after a long absence, as the regime of oppression and tyranny falls after 54 years, and as the Syrian people are liberated, with the new leadership under Ahmad al-Sharaa arresting the individual responsible for Kamal Jumblatt’s assassination, Ibrahim al-Huwaiji, I hereby declare, on behalf of myself, my family, and the Progressive Socialist Party, the conclusion of this tradition, as the justice of history has finally taken its course.”
Jumblatt also stressed the importance of rebuilding Lebanese-Syrian relations based on new principles and demarcating the borders between the two countries, both on land and at sea.
