Syria, Germany discuss Prospects of cooperation in water and sanitation field

Damascus, SANA- Syria and Germany discussed Prospects of cooperation in the field of water and sanitation, as well as the challenges facing this work and the requirements for enhancing this cooperation in the coming phase between the two countries.

That was during a meeting on Tuesday that brought together Minister of Water Resources, Osama Abu Zeid, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the German Mission in Damascus, Margarete Jacob, and the accompanying delegation.

‏Minister Abu Zaid noted to the challenges facing drinking water, sanitation and irrigation sector, as well the massive damage caused to this sector such destroying the infrastructure and energy sources.

This requires concerted local and international efforts to provide drinking water to those displaced in order to ensure their return to their original areas, he added.

He hoped to exchange technical and scientific expertise and experiences with the German side, in addition to training human cadres in order to contribute in the reconstruction process of Syria.

In turn, Jacob underscored the coordination of German government with the new government to develop a plan for boosting cooperation with Water Resources Ministry for the process of reconstruction.
