Mikdad participates in marking anniversary of founding Group of Friends in Defense of UN Charter

Baku, SANA- The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, whose country chairs the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, has held a celebration to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the group.

The event was held within the framework of the activities held on the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states currently held in Azerbaijani capital, Baku, with the participation of Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad and the accompanying delegation.

The participants in the celebration stressed the key role of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter and the steps and initiatives that have been taken over the last two years.

The participants underscored the importance of continuing joint action, coordination and exchange of support at international forums and pushing it forwards in a way that would preserve multilateral international action and upholds the principles and purposes of the UN Charter away from the ambitions of hegemony, unipolarity and political pressures.

The Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations was established in New York in 2021 and expanded its activities to include coordinating the positions of its member states in Geneva, Vienna and Brussels.
