Syria, Iraq discuss means to enhance bilateral cooperation particularly in parliamentary field   

Baghdad, SANA- Syria and Iraq have discussed the relations binding the two countries, particularly in the parliamentary domain and means to enhance the prospects for bilateral cooperation.

That came during a meeting that brought together Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad and Mohammed al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, at the conclusion of Mikdad’s visit to Iraq.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed coordinating joint action to achieve stability in Syria and the region, stressing the importance of action, cooperation and coordination in the fight against terrorism.

The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament affirmed his country’s support for Syria’s return to exercising its pivotal role in the region and the world.

Minister Mikdad conveyed the greetings of President Bashar al-Assad to the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament.

He praised the efforts made by al-Halbousi during his presidency of the meeting of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in Baghdad, and the Iraqi government and people’s support for Syria during the years of crisis.

Mikdad expressed Syria’s appreciation for Iraq’s supportive positions in Arab and international forums, and for standing with it in facing the crisis and the repercussions of the devastating earthquake that hit the country last February.

In the same context, Minister Mikdad discussed with the head of the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq, Judge Faeq Zaidan, ways to enhance judicial cooperation between Syria and Iraq.

During the meeting, Mikdad and Zaidan affirmed the depth of the brotherly relations between the two countries and the importance of strengthening them in all fields.
