Sabbagh, Cuban Ambassador discuss parliamentary relations

Damascus, SANA- Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammoudeh Sabbagh affirmed importance of enhancing parliamentary relations between Syria and Cuba.

During his meeting with Ambassador Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodrigues, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Syria, Sabbagh highlighted the importance of boosting Syrian-Cuban parliamentary relations, hailing Cuba’s firm support to Syria and its people throughout the years of the terrorist war waged on Syria.

Sabbagh congratulated the Cuban government and its people on the great success of electing their representatives in the National Assembly of People’s Power.

Taking this opportunity, Sabbagh conveyed his sincere congratulations and warmest wishes to Ambassador Fernández upon his new appointment in Damascus so that he contributes to the development of Syrian-Cuban bilateral relations.

The Cuban Ambassador, for his part, reiterated his country’s firm and unconditional support for the Syrian people in their fight against the sanctions, embargo and terrorism along with its supporters and sponsors.

As ambassador of Cuba to Syria, Fernández noted there are various plans and projects that he will work on while fulfilling his duties in Damascus, the most important of which is cementing the parliamentary ties.

He clarified that Havana will continue to provide aid and assistance to Syria in the field of biotechnology, vaccines and medicines, whether to face Covid-19 or to overcome the repercussions of the devastating earthquake that hit Syria recently.

Following the meeting, the Cuban diplomat reaffirmed in a statement to journalists that his country firmly opposes the interference in the domestic affairs of Syria, calling for the liberation of all the Syrian lands from terrorism and foreign powers.
