Moscow, SANA –President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades voiced a strong condemnation of Turkey’s latest aggression on Syria’s territory.
“We are firmly against the double standards about the Syrian issue, and therefore we vehemently condemns the Turkish military violation of the Syrian territory,” the Cypriot President said in a press conference in Moscow, answering a question addressed by SANA correspondent.
Last week, the Turkish authorities transgressed into the Syrian land and relocated the tomb of Suleyman Shah from Raqqa province on the northern border without having gained Syria’s approval to do so.
President Anastasiades also referred to Turkey’s violation of Cyprus’s sovereignty about forty years ago and most recently of the economic area within the Cypriot territorial waters.
He regretted that some countries of the European Union have turned a blind eye to the Turkish transgression, whereas at the same time they have strong objections against Russia over the Ukrainian issue.
Cyprus President affirmed his country’s position calling for preserving Syria’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity in respect of the UN Charter and the rules of the international law.
