Capitals, SANA- India on Monday expressed concern about the acts of violence and vandalism perpetrated by supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, and its full support for the elected Brazilian authorities in confronting them.
“We are deeply concerned about the riots and vandalism against state institutions in Brazil, we call for respect for democratic traditions by all, and we express our full support to the Brazilian authorities,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter.
Cuba also strongly condemned the acts of violence committed by supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and their storming of government institutions, and expressed its full solidarity and support for President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
“We strongly condemn the undemocratic acts of violence aimed at creating chaos in Brazil, and the disrespect of the popular will that was expressed in the election of President Lula,” Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said in a Tweet.
In the same context, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro affirmed total rejection of the violent acts carried out by “Bolsonaro’s neo-fascist groups that attacked democratic institutions in Brazil,” expressing support for the Brazilian president and people.
For his part, Colombian President Gustavo Petro affirmed in a tweet that “fascism decided to carry out its coup,” stressing his solidarity “with Lula da Silva and the people of Brazil.”
Chilean President Gabriel Boric expressed his country’s full support for the Brazilian government in the face of this cowardly and despicable attack on democracy.
In turn, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador considered in a tweet that what happened in Brazil constituted a “reprehensible and undemocratic attempt”.
Meanwhile, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez stressed unconditional support for the elected Brazilian president in the face of this coup attempt.
For his part, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro, condemned “the attack on institutions in Brasilia, which calls into question an unacceptable act and a direct attack on democracy.”
In turn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, Rogelio Maita said: The events in Brazil showed that Latin America faces the challenge of “defending our democracies by preventing the triumph of hate speech.”
French President Emmanuel Macron called for “respect for democratic institutions in Brazil,” stressing “France’s unwavering support for President Lula.”
The French Foreign Ministry also condemned in the strongest terms the acts of violence against democratic institutions in Brazil.
“The attack in Brazil on government buildings is unacceptable and does not correspond to any form of democratic opposition,” Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a tweet, expressing solidarity with Brazilian institutions.
In Spain, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his support for the democratically elected government in Brazil.
On Sunday, US President Joe Biden described the attack as outrageous, and said: “Brazilian democratic institutions have our full support … and the will of the Brazilian people must not be undermined.”
