New York, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, has discussed with his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdollahian, the latest developments in the region.
That came on the sidelines of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77).
The two ministers also touched upon a number of issues related to bilateral relations and ways to develop them in all fields, especially in the face of the negative impacts of unilateral coercive measures imposed on their countries by the United States and other Western countries.
Both sides stressed that the bilateral relations are strategic, strong and distinguished, and they serve the interests of the Syrian and Iranian peoples.
Mikdad and Abdollahian hailed the high level of coordination and consultation between Syria and Iran in various fields and at the international forums, underlining the importance of continuing this to confront Western policies targeting the two countries.
The two ministers expressed support for the Astana format, which could contribute to achieving more stability and security in Syria, and their viewpoints converged on the necessity of continuing the fight against terrorism in Syria until its complete elimination.
Abdollahian reiterated his country’s continued support for Syria politically and economically and in the field of combating terrorism.
In turn, Mikdad expressed Syria’s support for the Iranian position on the nuclear file, holding the United States responsible for its obstruction of reaching an agreement so far.
