Al-Jaafari, Dlamini discuss means of enhancing political and diplomatic cooperation between Syria and South Africa

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, discussed with Candith Mashego-Dlamini , South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and the continuous political and diplomatic cooperation and coordination between both countries.

Talks during the meeting focused on the willingness of the two countries’ leaderships to enhance bilateral relations at all levels, especially that the joint historical relations between the two states and peoples constitute a cornerstone in pushing the bilateral relations forward.

The two sides also stressed the importance of maintaining political and diplomatic coordination and cooperation at international forums.

Al-Jaafari,  noted that the geographic dimension does not constitute an obstacle to the development of international relations.

He  went on to say that the conditions that Syria has been going through are similar to those experienced by South Africa during the time of leader Nelson Mandela who struggled for freedom and rejected submission, adding that the countries that are claiming today to support the Syrian people and raise the slogans of democracy, freedom and human rights are the same ones that had imprisoned and tortured great Mandela, loot the Syrian resources and support the foreign terrorists.

Dlamini noted the essential role of Syria in the Middle East, saying “it is necessary to regain its natural position and central role”.

She also thanked the Syrian government for the support that has being provided to the Republic of South Africa /RSA/.

At a press conference following the meeting, al- Jaafari described as deep and strong the relations between two countries, hailing the supporting stances of RSA at the international forums specially during the terrorist war being waged against Syria.
