South Africa’s Archbishop, anti-apartheid veteran Desmond Tutu passes away

Johannesburg, SANA- South Africa’s Archbishop and anti-apartheid veteran Desmond Tutu dies aged 90 on Saturday.
South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa announced in a presidential statement the passing away of Tutu, AFP said, expressing deep sadness for his death.
Tutu played a key role in anti-apartheid in South Africa for decades.
President Ramaphosa described him as “a patriot without equal; a leader of principle and pragmatism who gave meaning to the biblical insight that faith without works is dead.
President Ramaphosa added that Tutu was “an iconic spiritual leader, anti-apartheid activist and global human rights campaigner”.
Tutu was appointed Archbishop of Cape Town in 1986 and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 and Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Award in 1986, in addition to Gandhi Peace Prize in 2005.
