Syria, Lebanon to discuss bilateral cooperation

Damascus, SANA-A Lebanese ministerial delegation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the caretaker government, Zeina Akar, arrived in Jdeidet Yabous border crossing on the Syrian border on Saturday.

Foreign and Expatriates Minister Faysal Mikdad received the Lebanese delegation upon its arrival at Jdeidet Yabous border crossing.

SANA’s delegate to Jdaidet Yabous said that the Lebanese delegation includes Finance Minister Ghazi Wazni, Energy Minister Raymond Ghajar, General Security agency chief Major General Abbas Ibrahim.

The reporter added that the Lebanese delegation is scheduled to discuss with officials at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly the issue of importing Egyptian gas to Lebanon.

Head of the Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council, Nasri Khoury  told journalists in a statement that the visit aims to discuss the issue of importing gas from Egypt to Lebanon through Syria to produce the electrical power.

Khoury pointed out that it is expected to reach certain agreements during the one-day visit, stressing that the visit also aims to revive a previous agreement that allowed Lebanon to import gas from Egypt via Syria and Jordan.

He pointed out that the visit carries political indications and other ones related to the issues of gas and activating cooperation between the two countries.

He added that “Syria has always been positive in all its approaches”, stressing Syria’s keenness to cooperate and extend aid to Lebanon despite all the difficulties facing it.
