Prime Minister: Work underway to relaunch pharmaceutical production

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi on Sunday asserted that the government is working to relaunch production in the pharmaceutical industries sector and ensure the availability of pharmaceuticals in pharmacies and hospitals at reasonable prices.

Chairing a meeting of the Medicine Affairs Committee, the Prime Minister stressed the need for adhering to the unified mechanism set for public sector health establishments for procuring pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, and to import medicine exclusively from friendly countries, calling for holding any establishment that operates outside this mechanism to be held accountable.

He also called for making lists of the pharmaceuticals needed by relevant ministries according to biannual needs and gathering these lists in a database, asserting the necessity of controlling the prices of medicine and ensuring that their supplies available in hospitals and pharmacies have high efficacy.
