After years of hiatus, farmers of Sheikh Miskeen re-cultivate their lands

Daraa, SANA- Amid facilitations provided by the authorities concerned and after years of hiatus due to terrorism, farmers in Sheikh Miskeen City in Daraa Province have started to cultivate their lands and harvest their crops again.

The agricultural crops in Sheikh Miskeen, vary between wheat and summer vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, potatoes and others, in addition to the orchards of olives and grapes.

In a statement to SANA reporter, Yousef al-Ghazzawi, owner of a vegetable field said that he cultivated his land in 2019, while he was unable to cultivate it between the years 2014 and 2018 due to terrorism, but after liberating the city, he came back to his home at the entrance of al-Sheikh Miskeen and started to cultivate his land again with cucumber crops.

The farmer noted that his project of cultivating vegetables has provided about 40 job opportunities for families from Daraa and other provinces.

Assistant Director of Agriculture Department in Daraa, Engineer Bassam al-Hashish, said that the farmers in Sheikh Miskeen have exerted huge efforts to re-cultivate their lands, indicating that the Agriculture Department has provided everything possible to support the farmers with the production requirements.

According to the Agriculture Department, the area of lands cultivated with summer vegetables in the province has reached more than 2,664 Hectares as it has exceeded the set plan which was estimated at 1,292 hectares.
