New York, SANA- Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that cooperation among countries of the South is a factor of integration in the efforts to achieve the internationally-adopted developmental goals, adding that it is one of the manifestations of solidarity among peoples on the bilateral and multilateral levels.
In a speech during the general debate of the twentieth session of the High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation, which was held via video technology with the participation of a number of ministers, Sabbagh stressed the need for South-South cooperation to be based on the principles included in the final document of the Nairobi meeting, which are respect for state sovereignty, national ownership and equality ,non-interference in domestic affairs, putting an end to setting conditions or imposing dictates, and achieving mutual benefit.
Sabbagh added that the spread of the Corona epidemic since the beginning of last year represented a global threat to public health and a serious challenge to all member states, and more to the countries of the south, and after more than a year and a half, human solidarity is still below the required level, whether with regard to cooperation to confront the repercussions of the epidemic or with regard to obtaining vaccines.
