Western unilateral measures imposed on Syria immoral, Russian diplomat says

London, SANA- ‘’The unilateral measures imposed on Syria by Britain, US and other Western countries are unacceptable and immoral’’, Russian Ambassador to the UK, Andrei Kelin said.

Russian TASS News Agency quoted Kelin, during a conference organized by the European Center for the Study of Extremism of Cambridge University, as saying “The development in Syria has been hindered not only by the repercussions of the crisis and Coronavirus pandemic, but also by the unlawful unilateral sanctions imposed by US and Britain and some of their allies.”

He noted that these restrictive measures don’t only prevent the recovery of the economy, but they also prevent the purchases of medicine and medical equipment”.

Kelin added that the Syrian people are in a pressing need for humanitarian aid, and the policy of Western countries, including Britain in delivering aid to only the areas controlled by the armed opposition, meanwhile imposing sanctions on the rest of the country, is a harsh policy that raises huge concerns,” adding “It is necessary to provide aid to all Syrians without any distinction or preconditions.”

In a response to the Western coercive measures, an official source at Foreign and Expatriates Ministry on Monday said that the EU is responsible for the bloodshed and suffering of the Syrians, through supporting all forms of terrorism and practicing economic terrorism.

The source added that the EU has no right to pretend to be keen on the Syrians and it is not qualified to play any positive role, unless it is subordinate to the approach which has proven its failure.
