Damascus, SANA-Constituent assembly of the Syrian-Belarusian businessmen council was held on Thursday in the presence of representatives from different ministries, economic and trade sectors to deepen and expand trade relations between Syria and Belarus.
“Syria maintains important political and economic relations with Belarus as we seek to deepen cooperation and broaden it to include different domains and raise the volume of trade exchange up to 1 billion USD,” Assistant Economy Minister Hayan Salman said during the session.
He affirmed that if Syria was committed to the standards and competitive prices with Eurasian member countries, this would pave the way for the Syrian goods to cover nearly 170 million consumers.
For his part, Belarusian Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Ponomarev said the trade exchange volume between Syria and Belarus has doubled 10 times during 2014 if compared to last year, saying today’s meeting is considered as a first step to promote the trade and economic ties between both countries.
Imad Ma’atouk, Chairman of the Syrian-Belarusian businessmen council affirmed that the Syrian businessmen have made profound study for the Belarusian market and there are many job opportunities to benefit from the Belarusian expertise in different sectors of industry.
