Abd al-Lahian: Coercive measures imposed on Syria unjust and must be lifted

Tehran, SANA- Special Assistant to Speaker of Iran’s Shura Council Hussein Amir Abd al-Lahian, depicted the unilateral and inhuman coercive measures imposed on Syria as unjust and must be lifted.

During his meeting with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen in Tehran on Monday, Abd al-Lahian said that Iran will continue to strongly defend Syria and its security as an important country in the region.

He added that his country will continue to back the constructive efforts of the United Nations aiming at preserving the Syria’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the return of sustainable security to its territory.

The Iranian Diplomat stressed the importance of continuing the work of the Committee of Discussing Constitution, noting that all parties must shoulder responsibility regarding that.

For his part, Pedersen said that efforts to solve the crisis in Syria are on a “relatively good track”, stressing at the same time that the economic situation of the Syrian people is getting worse.

He praised Iran’s role in combating terrorism in Syria and supporting the return of Syrian refugees.
