Vienna, SANA- Vienna Cardinal Christoph Schonborn expressed deep concern towards the terrorist acts perpetrated by armed organizations in Syria and the destruction, killing and displacement accompanying these acts, praying for the return of peace and security to the country.
During a mass held in Vienna with the participation of Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East Mar Ignatius Aphrem II, Cardinal Schonborn urged for exerting all possible efforts to protect Syria, the cradle of heavenly messages, and to prevent the displacement of Christians at the hands of terrorist organizations in Syria and Iraq, calling for preserving the religious diversity.
He affirmed that Austria and the catholic church stand by the Christians in the Middle East who are suffering from the extremists’ attempts to displace and expel them.
For his part, Patriarch Aphrem II called upon the Christians in Syria, Iraq and the Middle East to cling to the homeland and to pray for the return of peace and stability to Syria, calling for more cooperation with the country which is passing through the most difficult circumstances.
