Beirut, SANA – The Lebanese Customs said that some social media accounts have recently published photos and videos of trucks transporting goods from Lebanon to Syria being faced with obstructions in some Lebanese areas, with those accounts claiming that the trucks were smuggling food items into Syria.
The Customs said in a statement that these trucks were transporting aid including sugar and other items for the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as part of the UN World Food Programme, with these items arriving at Beirut Harbor as part of the international transit to Syria, and they were being transported through Lebanon by a licensed company, adding that this has been occurring openly and on weekly basis ever since the crisis began in Syria.
The Customs also said that a number of Syrian tanker trucks entered Lebanon legally and headed to Beirut Harbor to transport vegetable oil procured by the Syrian state.
A number of troublemakers had intercepted trucks in Tripoli in the north of Lebanon on Friday and Saturday under the pretext that the trucks were transporting food from Lebanon to Syria.
