Al-Jaafari: Syria calls for putting an end to the economic unilateral measures imposed on the country

New York, SANA- Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, said that Syria reaffirms calls for putting an unconditional end to the economic unilateral, coercive measures imposed on the country, particularly in light of the spread of coronavirus.

“All member states theoretically agree today that confronting coronavirus requires an international collective solidarity, but disagreements which have lately occurred inside the General Assembly about the contents of draft resolutions have proven that the policies and actions of some sides don’t always agree with the obligations or words,” al-Jaafari added during a virtual meeting for the UN General assembly in the framework of measures taken to confront coronavirus.

He reiterated that Syria is committed to the convention and rules that govern the work of the UN, with its loyalty to the national interests and the Syrian people’s right to put an end to the economic sanctions imposed on the country.

“We are determined to stick to our inalienable rights, which are protected by the international law and convention and the UN General Assembly’s relevant resolutions to put an end to the unilateral economic measures, al-Jaafari stressed, pointing out to Syria’s call for the freedom of reaching the international trade and the international banking system to be able to ensure the Syrian basic demands and overcome the economic, social and health impacts of the coronavirus epidemic.
