Lattakia, SANA – Engineer Ali al-Bakir, owner of a startup established at the IT and Communications Incubator at the Syrian Computer Society (SCS) branch in Lattakia, has invented a portable respirator to help support the health sector’s efforts for confronting the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In a statement to SANA’s reporter, al-Bakir said that the invention came about due to the current circumstances, with the goal of meeting the needs of the efforts to confront the Coronavirus, particularly since the sanctions imposed on Syria have hindered the procurement of medical equipment.

Al-Bakir said he constructed the prototype of his invention using local materials and technologies, and tests on it will begin on Sunday.

He said that more modifications to enhance performance can be added, and that the invention can control the amount of airflow and has a safety valve in case pressure exceeds the maximum required amount, in addition to the ability to control the number of breathing cycles per minute.
