Syria participates in Meeting of RCUWM Board of Governors , Tehran

Tehran, SANA- Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Regional Centre for Urban Water Management (RCUWM) on Wednesday kicked off at the Iranian capital city of Tehran with the participation of a number of delegations from different states including a Syrian delegation headed by Water Resources Minister Hussein Arnous and in presence of Syria’s Ambassador to Tehran Dr. Adnan Mahmoud.

In a speech during the meeting, Arnous said that the Syrian Government works on rehabilitating the water system despite of the unjust siege and the unilateral coercive measures imposed by colonial Western states on Syria.

He added that over the eight past eight years a terrorist war has been waged against Syria causing huge damage to the water sector in Syria in general and to the sectors of drinking water and the sewage sector in particular as water has been used as a weapon by terrorist forces in their war against the country.

Arnous expressed hope on benefiting from the modern experiences and techniques in the domain of urban water management, and invigorating cooperation in the domain of developing the private techniques and policies and the scientific research in this framework, particularly in the stage of rehabilitating the water system.

Iranian Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian, in a speech during the meeting, hailed the work of the Regional Centre for Urban Water Management (RCUWM) and its cooperation with the local and international institutions and organization in a way that achieves water security.

Ministers and Assistant Ministers from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, Switzerland, Oman, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, and Turkey are participating in the meeting which aims to exchange experiences and proposals on the water system.
