U.S. House calls on Trump to impose sanctions on Turkish regime due to its offensive on Syria

Washington, SANA- The U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday for a resolution calling on the White House to impose sanctions on the Turkish regime over its offensive on Syrian territories.

Reuters Agency mentioned that the House members voted 403-16 in favor of the legislation which calls on President Donald Trump to impose sanctions and other restrictions on Turkey and Turkish officials.

The legislation was a part of an effort by both Democrats and many of Trump’s fellow Republicans in Congress to push Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government to end, and not resume, its military offensive against the Syrian territories.

The House of Representatives also  voted overwhelmingly to recognize the 1915 Armenian genocide of a century ago.

The House voted 405-11 in favor of the resolution to formally recognize the systematic killing of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians under the Ottoman Empire as a “genocide”.
