Istanbul, SANA-Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed over phone on Saturday the efforts to push ahead a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a statement carried by Sputnik news agency that the phone call between the two presidents dealt with “the necessity of intensifying joint efforts to push forward the political settlement in Syria,” indicating that it came ahead of the forthcoming quartet summit in Istanbul which will bring together, besides the Russian and French presidents, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Upon their arrival in Istanbul, Putin discussed with the German Chancellor means to accelerate a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
Putin also held a meeting with the Turkish President shortly after he arrived in Istanbul.
