Kazakh FM: Next round of Astana meeting might be held late this month

Astana, SANA- Kazakh Foreign Minister, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, announced that the 9th round of Astana meeting on Syria might be held in the last third of the current month, indicating that the bodies concerned are preparing for this round.

Kazakh news agency on Tuesday quoted Abdrakhmanov as saying “The information we receive from the guarantor states of Astana process affirm that the bodies concerned are making preparations for the new round of talks in accordance with what had been agreed upon previously.”

Abdrakhmanov indicated that the date of holding the 9th round of Astana meeting in the last third of the current month requires a final assertion by the guarantor states, namely Russia, Iran and Turkey.

The Kazakh capital of Astana has hosted eight meetings on Syria, the last of which was on Dec. 21-22, and all of the meetings emphasized the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria and called for continuing to combat terrorism, consolidating the cessation of hostilities in the de-escalation zones and finding a peaceful solution to the crisis.
