Geneva, SANA – Health Minister Nizar Yazigi discussed with his Belarusian and Iraqi counterparts Valery Malashko and Adila Hammoud Hussein the possibilities of enhancing joint cooperation in the fields of health and medicine, which will affect the health situation in Syria positively.
In two separate meetings hold on the sidelines of the 70th World Health Assembly which is taking place in Geneva, Yazigi said that enhancing cooperation between Syria and Belarus will contribute to meeting the needs of health establishments in Syria, particularly regarding the importation of some specific medicines produced in Belarus.
In turn, Malashko called on the Syrian delegation to visit Belarus, while the Iraqi minister expressed her country’s interest in activating the joint health agreements signed between Syria and Iraq, especially in the field of medicine.
The 70th World Health Assembly started its activities on Monday and will last till the end of May at the UN headquarters in Geneva with the participation of 194 states including Syria.
The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of the WHO. The main functions of the World Health Assembly are to determine the policies of the WHO, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed program budget. The World Health Assembly is held annually in Geneva.
