Russian Foreign Ministry: Crisis in Syria can be solved only through political means

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the solution of the crisis in Syria could be only reached through political means.

The remarks came in a statement issued Tuesday in a comment on the meeting of the Russian President’s Special Representative to the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov with a delegation of Syrian tribal council’s leaders in north-east of Syria.

“The talks focused on the current situation in the tribes’ areas in the north-east of Syria due to the accelerating crimes of the so-called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) there,” the Ministry said.

“The two sides affirmed that military means can’t provide solution to the crisis in Syria, yet it can be only solved through political and diplomatic means based on the Syrian-Syrian dialogue,” the Ministry added.

The Ministry indicated that talks during the meeting focused on “discussing the participation of the tribal councils in Syria in the political process in a way that serves the halt of violence and the reconstruction of the economic and social infrastructure in the country.”

Earlier in the month, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared that Syria, Lebanon and Iraq are facing a common danger represented by the spread of international terrorism which doesn’t recognize the existence of borders between countries and seeks to impose its hegemony on more lands.

On the other hand, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Moscow has ideas to reach a “Palestinian-Israeli settlement”, and it is ready to brief the Palestinian side on these ideas.

In the beginning of his talks held Tuesday with Head of the Palestinian delegation in the negotiations with Israel Saeb Erekat, Lavrov said “We have certain ideas in this regard and we would like to exchange them with you, and we want to listen to what you want to do to reach a stable and comprehensive settlement.”

He expressed hope that these negotiations will lead to a “comprehensive Palestinian- Israeli settlement.”

Earlier, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that the number of the Palestinians who have been killed in the Israeli aggression on Gaza has reached 2,016 while the number of the wounded amounted to 10,193.
